After watching Infinity War, I needed a break from the MCU, and it was a long break. It wasn’t until earlier this year when a lot of the MCU films were available on Disney + did I watch anything in that universe again. I dipped my toes back into the MCU with Captain Marvel, and boy, I’m glad I did. It had all that I wanted out of my superhero movies: minimal angst, fun fight scenes, and enough of a plot to hold the whole movie together (as a disclosure, Ant Man is my other favorite Marvel movie, so you have a more complete picture of what I enjoy in superhero movies). I really wanted to draw a character from Captain Marvel, but every picture I found of our protagonist had intimidating hair. So, I went with another character who I also really enjoyed the portrayal of: Danvers’ mentor— Dr. Wendy Larson.

Reading about Dr. Larson, I discovered that her role was originally supposed to be for a man, but they liked the chemistry better with Danvers having a woman as a mentor. At this point I can’t really imagine another person, male or female, taking on this role. I was really digging every moment of Annette Bening’s acting whenever she was on screen. To that end, I felt a bit guilty when I got to the creepy, possessed alien stage of my drawing.

Thankfully she got better in the end! I have some things to work on for my next portrait attempt, but it's another finished drawing.
